TYPES OF STEEL BARS 

Forms of steel bars

MILD STEEL BAR   (Fe 250)

   The mild steel bars are plain round and hot rolled bars. These bars have plain surface and have sufficient bond at their ends hooks and bends at their ends for anchorages these bar bend easily and weldable . mild steel bars defined yield point. Plain mild steel bars strength 250 N/mm2

2) HIGH YIELD STRENGTH DEFORMED BAR (HYSD)

   The cold working process increases both yield as well as the ultimate strength of steel .the yield stress or characteristic stress is given 0.2%proof stress 

1. Increase in tensile strength.

2. Increase in bond strength (About 60% more the plain round bars.)

*Advantages of hysd bar

Due to high yield  strength, the amount of steel required is considerably  reduce .

*disadvantage of hysd  

 Due to reduction in tension steel the design shear strength of concrete is reduce . 

TMT bar (thermal and mechanically treated)

This steel  has a defined yield point  TMT steel has better properties as compared to common HYSD  bars

CRS(corrosion resistant steel ) bar

  The carbon content  in the CRS bars is 0.18% as compared to 0.2% in HYSD  bars. The percentage of corrosion resisting  elements such as chromium is as 1.5% .in India  SAIL and TISCO are producing CRS bars .

3)  Steel fabric 

   Sometimes  expanded metal fabric made by welding or weaving  steel wire in the form of square mesh are also used as reinforcement in slabs , shells and concrete roads.

4. Structural steel 

For works of large dimensions like massive foundation section like rolled beams , 

            channels or angle iron are used as reinforcement.  

REBARS

Steel reinforcement are steel bars that are provided in combination with plain cement concrete to make it reinforced concrete. Hence these structures form steel reinforced cement concrete structure (R.C.C). Steel reinforcement is commonly called as ‘rebars’.
